muffy887Hi,
I need some help!!!!I have to build a castle it doesn't have to be that big but it has to have a stable and a gate house(what is that)
I'm in the 6th grade and am very lost!!If you can help me please do.

------------------

MerlinA very beautiful example for a castle with stables and a gatehouse is castle Hallwyl in Switzerland. Some good pictures:

It's appearance hasn't changed much since medieval times, because it's still in the possesion of the same family that built it in the 12th century. Maybe you can get some ideas from that example and simplify it for your modell.

FIRST TO YOUR QUESTION "WHAT IS A GATEHOUSE"

Gate House - The complex of towers, bridges, and barriers built to protect each entrance through a castle or town wall.

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH MERLIN - CASTLE HALLWIEL

IS A VERY NICE EXAMPLE - BUT I´M AFRAID -IT`S
A LOT OF WORK TO MAKE A MODEL OF IT

IF YOU NEED A FLOORPLAN - LET ME KNOW - I CAN
SEND YOU A COPY BY MAIL

LevanWhy not take a look at the Model Making forum - you'll find lots of information there about building all kinds of castle models.

duncanAll over England, Scotland and Ireland are small farm houses that have a stable\barn and high walls that forms a courtyard. Many with gate houses. Not what most people think of when they say castle, but that is what they are. One that would be simple to build is Provanhall in Scotland.
New World Slackeryou need 23 tonnes of stone and about 2000 people willing to work for you

fafwolfFor information about how castles were built in real life, try the book "Castle" by David Macaulay. As for how to build YOUR model, I suggest small blocks of scrap wood painted gray, or perhaps popsicle sticks. If you dont need quite as much realism you could use candy or something else original...
castlesmileyHey, if you want to know what any Medieval words mean, you can look them up at http://www.chronique.com/Library/Glossaries/glossary-AA/armsindx.htm
castlesmileymuffy887,
Maybe you could start w/ a cardboard box or milk carton.
